Provas N is a combination of paracetamol (also known as acetaminophen) and orphenadrine and is sometimes used to relieve pain and muscle spasms. These two medications have different mechanisms of action, and when combined, they can provide relief for certain musculoskeletal conditions. However, like any medication, Provas-N can have side effects.

What Are The Possible Drug Interactions of Provas N?

  1. Sedatives and Central Nervous System (CNS) Depressants: Provas N can cause drowsiness and enhance the sedative effects of other medications, such as benzodiazepines, opioids, certain antihistamines, and sleep aids. Combining these substances can increase the risk of excessive drowsiness and impaired coordination.
  2. Alcohol: Alcohol is a CNS depressant and can amplify the sedative effects of Provas N. It is strongly recommended to avoid alcohol while taking this combination to prevent drowsiness, dizziness, and impaired cognitive function.
  3. Anticholinergic Medications: Provas N has anticholinergic properties, which means it can inhibit the action of acetylcholine in the nervous system. Combining it with other anticholinergic drugs, such as some antihistamines or tricyclic antidepressants, can lead to an additive anticholinergic effect, causing dry mouth, constipation, blurred vision, and cognitive impairment.
  4. Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs): Provas N may interact with MAOIs, a class of antidepressant medications, leading to severe central nervous system reactions, including hypertensive crisis, agitation, confusion, and potentially life-threatening symptoms. MAOIs should not be used concurrently with Provas N.
  5. Tramadol: Combining Provas N with tramadol, an opioid pain medication, can increase the risk of seizures. This combination should be used with caution and under the guidance of a healthcare provider.
  6. Other Muscle Relaxants: Combining Provas N with other muscle relaxants or medications with muscle relaxant properties may lead to additive effects and increased drowsiness or muscle weakness.
  7. Antihypertensive Medications: Provas N can have mild hypotensive (blood pressure-lowering) effects. Combining it with other antihypertensive medications may further lower blood pressure.
  8. Certain Antacids: Some antacids, particularly those containing aluminum or magnesium, may reduce the absorption of Provas N. It is generally recommended to take Provas N at least two hours before or after taking antacids.
  9. Urinary Alkalinizing Agents: Medications that alkalinize the urine may reduce the excretion of Provas N and potentially increase its blood levels. This could lead to an increased risk of side effects.
