Cefiget Side Effects

Cefiget is an antibiotic medication commonly used to treat various bacterial infections. Like any medication, Cefiget can cause side effects, which can range from common and mild to less common and more severe.

Common Side Effects

• Gastrointestinal disturbances: These are the most common side effects of Cefiget and may include nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and flatulence. Taking Cefiget with food can help reduce these symptoms.
• Headache: Some people may experience mild headaches while taking Cefiget.
• Skin rash or itching: Skin reactions, such as rash or itching, can occur in some individuals with Cefiget.
• Allergic reactions: Although rare, some people may experience more severe allergic reactions, such as hives, swelling, or difficulty breathing. If you notice any signs of an allergic reaction, seek immediate medical attention.

Less Common or More Severe Side Effects

• Severe diarrhea: In rare cases, Cefiget can cause a severe form of diarrhea known as pseudomembranous colitis. This condition can be life-threatening and requires immediate medical attention.
• Clostridium difficile infection: Cefiget use may lead to a C. difficile infection, which can cause severe diarrhea and colon inflammation. It can also be life-threatening in some cases.
• Hepatic effects: Liver problems, including elevated liver enzymes, hepatitis, and jaundice, have been reported in rare instances.
• Blood disorders: Rarely, Cefiget can lead to changes in blood cell counts, such as decreased white blood cells, which may increase the risk of infections, and decreased platelets, which can affect clotting.
• Central nervous system effects: Some individuals may experience dizziness, confusion, or other central nervous system-related side effects of Cefiget, although these are uncommon.

Cefiget Tablet : 200mg strength.

Cefiget Syrup : 100mg/5ml and 200mg/5ml strengths.

Cefiget Capsule : 400mg strength.

1. Warfarin: Cefiget can increase the effects of warfarin, an anticoagulant (blood thinner). This interaction may lead to an increased risk of bleeding. Regular monitoring of your blood clotting parameters may be necessary if you are taking both drugs simultaneously.
2. Probenecid: Probenecid can reduce the elimination of Cefiget from the body, potentially leading to increased Cefixime levels in the bloodstream. This can enhance the effectiveness of Cefiget but may also increase the risk of side effects.
3. Antacids or products containing aluminum, magnesium, or calcium: These substances can reduce the absorption of Cefiget, leading to decreased effectiveness. If you need to take antacids, it’s usually recommended to separate their administration from Cefiget by a few hours.
4. Drugs that reduce stomach acid: Medications like proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) and H2 blockers may reduce the absorption of Cefiget. Taking Cefiget with these drugs may result in decreased effectiveness.
5. Iron supplements: Iron supplements can interfere with the absorption of Cefiget, potentially reducing its effectiveness. It is advisable to separate the administration of Cefiget and iron supplements by a few hours.
6. Other antibiotics: Using Cefiget in combination with other antibiotics, especially those with similar mechanisms of action, may increase the risk of side effects and reduce their effectiveness.
7. Methotrexate: Cefiget may decrease the excretion of methotrexate, a medication used to treat certain medical conditions. This can lead to increased methotrexate levels in the body, potentially causing toxic effects.
8. Diuretics: There may be an increased risk of kidney problems when Cefiget is used in combination with certain diuretics.
9. Oral contraceptives: Cefiget may reduce the effectiveness of oral contraceptives. It’s important to use alternative or additional methods of contraception while taking Cefiget to prevent unintended pregnancies.
