Pelton V is a medication used to relieve symptoms of nausea and vomiting and to enhance gastrointestinal motility. While Pelton V is generally well-tolerated, it can still cause some common and less common side effects. Here are some common and less common side effects associated with Pelton V include.
Common Side Effects
- Gastrointestinal Disturbances: These might include abdominal cramps, diarrhea, constipation, and discomfort. However, Pelton V is often prescribed to address such symptoms, so these effects may not always occur.
- Headache: Some individuals may experience mild to moderate headaches while taking Pelton V.
- Dry Mouth: A sensation of dryness in the mouth might occur occasionally.
- Drowsiness or Fatigue: Some people may feel drowsy or tired while on Pelton V, particularly when starting treatment or when taking higher doses.
- Changes in Menstrual Periods: In some cases, Pelton V has been associated with changes in menstrual periods or breast milk production due to its effects on prolactin levels. It can lead to galactorrhea (production of breast milk in non-lactating individuals) or irregular menstrual cycles.
- Breast Enlargement or Tenderness: Due to its action on prolactin, some individuals, especially men, might experience breast enlargement or tenderness.
Less Common Side Effects
- Cardiac Effects: In rare instances, Pelton V can cause changes in heart rhythm, particularly in individuals with pre-existing heart conditions or those taking medications that also affect heart rhythm. This can lead to palpitations, rapid heartbeat (tachycardia), or irregular heartbeats (arrhythmias).
- Extrapyramidal Symptoms: These are neurological side effects that may include involuntary muscle movements, tremors, rigidity, or restlessness. These symptoms are more commonly associated with higher doses of Pelton V or long-term use. They are more prevalent in elderly individuals.
- Seizures: Although uncommon, some reports suggest that Pelton V might lower the seizure threshold, potentially leading to seizures, especially in individuals predisposed to seizures or those with a history of epilepsy.
- Allergic Reactions: In rare cases, allergic reactions to Pelton V can lead to symptoms such as swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat (angioedema), difficulty breathing, or severe skin rashes (Stevens-Johnson syndrome or toxic epidermal necrolysis). These require immediate medical attention.
- Hormonal Effects: Pelton V can increase levels of the hormone prolactin, which might result in gynecomastia (enlargement of breast tissue) or galactorrhea (production of breast milk) in both men and women. These effects are usually reversible upon discontinuation of the medication.
- Psychiatric Effects: Some individuals might experience mood changes, nervousness, or depression while taking Pelton V, although these occurrences are rare.
- Liver Problems: Although uncommon, Pelton V can rarely cause liver-related issues, including elevated liver enzymes or liver function test abnormalities.

What Are The Possible Drug Interactions of Pelton V?
- Medications affecting heart rhythm: Pelton V can prolong the QT interval (the time it takes for the heart to recharge between beats), and when combined with other medications that also affect heart rhythm, it can increase the risk of serious irregular heartbeats (arrhythmias). These medications include certain antibiotics, antifungal drugs, some antidepressants, and certain antipsychotics.
- CYP3A4 inhibitors: Pelton V is metabolized in the liver by an enzyme called CYP3A4. Drugs that inhibit this enzyme, such as ketoconazole, erythromycin, clarithromycin, and some antiretroviral medications, can increase the concentration of Pelton V in the blood, potentially leading to an increased risk of side effects.
- CYP3A4 inducers: Conversely, medications that induce CYP3A4 activity, such as rifampicin, carbamazepine, and certain anticonvulsants, can reduce the effectiveness of Pelton V by decreasing its concentration in the blood.
- Antacids and Antisecretory Agents: Concomitant use of medications that reduce stomach acidity, such as proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) or H2 blockers, might affect the absorption of Pelton V. Taking these medications at the same time as Pelton V might decrease its effectiveness.
- Dopamine antagonists: Combining Pelton V with other medications that also block dopamine receptors, such as certain antipsychotics or metoclopramide, might have additive effects on gastrointestinal motility or dopamine-related side effects.
- Other medications: Always inform your healthcare provider about all medications, supplements, or herbal products you are taking. Although interactions with Pelton V are less common, caution might be warranted when using it with other medications affecting the central nervous system or drugs with narrow therapeutic indices.
