Buscopan Plus Side Effects

Buscopan Plus is a combination of Hyoscine butyl bromide and Paracetamol is often used to relieve abdominal cramps and pain associated with conditions like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Like all medications, Buscopan Plus has some common and less common side effects for some individuals may experience.

Common Side Effects

• Dry mouth:  Buscopan Plus can cause a reduction in saliva production, leading to a dry mouth sensation.
• Blurred vision: Another side effect of Buscopan Plus is blurred vision or difficulty focusing on objects.
• Constipation: This medication can sometimes lead to constipation due to its antispasmodic effect on the gastrointestinal tract.

1. Anticholinergic drugs: Taking Buscopan Plus with other medications that have anticholinergic effects (such as certain antidepressants, antihistamines, or medications for Parkinson’s disease) can increase the risk of side effects like dry mouth, blurred vision, constipation, and urinary retention.
2. Medications that affect liver function: The active ingredients of Buscopan Plus are metabolized in the liver. Combining it with other drugs that affect liver function or are metabolized through similar pathways might increase the risk of liver damage or toxicity. Examples include certain antibiotics, anticonvulsants, and some herbal supplements.
3. Alcohol: Consumption of alcohol while taking Buscopan Plus can increase the risk of liver damage due to both substances being processed by the liver. Avoiding alcohol or consulting a healthcare professional regarding its safe consumption while on this medication is advisable.
4. Medications that affect heart rate:  Buscopan Plus may have effects on heart rate. Combining it with other drugs that also affect heart rate (such as beta-blockers or other medications for heart conditions) might lead to increased heart rate or irregular heart rhythms.
