Avil Tablet Uses

Avil tablet is an antihistamine drug primarily used to treat allergies, the common cold, and urticaria (hay fever). It is also used to treat skin conditions such as hives, itching, and redness. Avil tablets are commonly used for the following indications:

1. Allergic Rhinitis: Avil tablet is used to alleviate symptoms of allergic rhinitis such as sneezing, itching, runny nose, and nasal congestion, which is inflammation of the nasal passages due to an allergic response.
2. Allergic Conjunctivitis: Avil tablet is also used to relieve symptoms of allergic conjunctivitis, including redness, itching, and watering of the eyes caused by an allergic reaction.
3. Urticaria (Hives): Avil tablets can be used to reduce itching and alleviate the symptoms of urticaria, a skin condition characterized by raised, itchy welts or hives.
4. Pruritus (Itching): Avil tablets may be used to relieve generalized itching associated with various causes, including allergic reactions, insect bites, or certain skin conditions.
5. Insect Bits: Avil tablet can be used in cases of allergic reactions caused by insect bites or stings, medications, or other allergens to help reduce symptoms like itching, hives, and swelling.

 Off-label Uses of Avil Tablet

1. Motion Sickness: Avil tablets may be used off-label to help alleviate symptoms of motion sickness, such as nausea, dizziness, and vomiting. Its antihistamine properties can help reduce the effects of motion-induced disturbances.
2. Insomnia: Due to its sedative effects, Avil tablets may be used to aid in sleep for individuals who have difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep. However, it’s important to note that long-term use of Avil for sleep issues is generally not recommended.
3. Anaphylaxis: In emergency situations, Avil tablets may be used as an adjunct treatment alongside epinephrine and other medications in the management of severe allergic reactions, such as anaphylaxis.

Presently, Avil is available in Tablet, Syrup, and Injection Forms

Avil Tablets : 25mg, and 50mg strengths

Avil Syrup : 15mg/5ml strength

Avil Injection : 22.7mg/ml strength

There are certain circumstances when taking Avil that should be avoided due to the potential risks of serious side effects. These include if you have narrow-angle glaucoma (increased pressure inside the eye), urinary retention (inability to urinate), prostatic hypertrophy (enlarged prostate), heart diseases such as congestive heart failure or arrhythmia, seizure disorder, asthma, liver disease, high blood pressure, thyroid disease, kidney disease, diabetes mellitus, depression and/or suicidal thoughts, dementia, psychotic disorders, Parkinson’s Disease, myasthenia gravis, bladder obstruction due to an enlarged prostate gland, and porphyria (metabolic disorder).

Other contraindications include if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, taking other medications that may interact negatively with Avil such as tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs), MAO inhibitors (MAOIs), other antihistamines like diphenhydramine, anticholinergics like atropine, sedatives like barbiturates, opioids like morphine, stimulants like amphetamine.

If you experience any of these conditions, please consult a medical professional prior to taking Avil.

Avil should not take empty stomach and with plenty of water.

Do not chew Avil tablet.

Adults & Children (10 years and over): Initially 1 tablet of Avil 25mg 2 to 3 times daily, If it needs the dose may be increased to double (1 tablet of Avil 50mg 2 to 3 times daily).

Children (5 to 10 years): 1 tablet of Avil 25mg 2 times daily.

Children (under 5 years): Avil tablets are not recommended.

Avil belongs to antihistamine drugs, it works to stop the allergy mediator enzyme (Histamine) by binding to the histamine H1 receptors. It acts as an inverse agonist once bound.
