Common Side Effects
- Upset Stomach: Some people may experience gastrointestinal discomfort, including nausea, stomach cramps, or diarrhea when taking Surbex Z.

What Are The Possible Drug Interactions of Surbex Z?
- Antibiotics (Quinolones and Tetracyclines): Surbex Z can bind to these antibiotics, such as ciprofloxacin and doxycycline, reducing their absorption. To prevent this interaction, it’s recommended to take these antibiotics at least 2 hours before or 4-6 hours after taking Surbex Z.
- Penicillamine: Penicillamine, used to treat Wilson’s disease and rheumatoid arthritis, can chelate with Surbex Z, reducing its effectiveness. Surbex Z should be taken at least 2 hours apart.
- Diuretics (Thiazides): Some diuretics can increase the excretion of Surbex Z from the body, potentially leading to zinc deficiency.
- Iron Supplements: High doses of Surbex Z can interfere with the absorption of iron. It’s advisable to take iron supplements and Surbex Z at different times of the day to maximize absorption of both.
- Bisphosphonates (Alendronate, Risedronate): Surbex Z can interfere with the absorption of bisphosphonates, which are used to treat osteoporosis. To avoid this interaction, Surbex Z should be taken on an empty stomach with water only, at least 30 minutes before food, beverages, or other medications.
- ACE Inhibitors and Angiotensin II Receptor Blockers (ARBs): High doses of Surbex Z may interfere with the effectiveness of these blood pressure medications.
- Loop Diuretics: Loop diuretics like furosemide can increase the urinary excretion of Surbex Z. This may lead to lower zinc levels in the body.
- Anti-Seizure Medications: Surbex Z can interact with certain anti-seizure drugs like carbamazepine and valproic acid, affecting their absorption.
