Cycin Tablet Uses

Cycin tablet is an antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. It belongs to a class of antibiotics called fluoroquinolones that kill pathogens (Harmful bacteria) or prevent their growth, and it is effective against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Following are some common uses of Cycin Tablets:

1. Treatment of Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs): Cycin tablet is commonly used to treat uncomplicated UTIs caused by susceptible bacteria.
2. Treatment of Respiratory Tract Infections: Cycin tablets may be used to treat respiratory tract infections such as acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, community-acquired pneumonia, and acute sinusitis caused by susceptible bacteria.

6. Treatment of Sexually Transmitted Infections: Cycin tablets may be used to treat sexually transmitted infections such as gonorrhea and chlamydia caused by susceptible bacteria.
7. Prevention or Treatment of Anthrax: Cycin tablets may be used to prevent or treat anthrax infection in individuals who have been exposed to anthrax.

Despite its many benefits, there are also some contraindications associated with Cycin use that should be taken into consideration before starting treatment.

Pregnant women should not take this medication.

Patients who have had seizures or neurological disorders should consult with their doctor prior to taking this medication.

People who have had an allergic reaction to any other fluoroquinolone antibiotic should not take Cycin.

Those with heart rhythm problems such as long QT syndrome or torsades de pointes may experience serious side effects from using this medication.

Cycin Dose For Mild to Moderate Infections:

For Adults: 500 to 1000 mg in 2 divided doses.

Cycin Dose For Urinary Tract or Kidney Infections:

For Adults: 500 to 1000 mg in 2 divided doses for 1 to 2 weeks.

For Children: The dose is usually 20 to 40 mg per kg of body weight in 2 divided doses for 1 to 3 weeks. (The dose should not exceed 750mg a day).

Cycin Dose For Gonorrhea:

For Adults: 250mg tablet once daily.

Cycin is a second-generation fluoroquinolone that works by inhibiting the enzymes known as topoisomerase (DNA gyrase). By this action, Cycin stops the growth of bacteria.
