Duride is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to any component of this product. Pregnancy, hyperkalemia, acute renal failure, anuria and renal impairment (with creatinine clearance < 30ml per minute, hyponatraemia, hypovolmia, hypotension and precomatose states associated with cirrhosis. Known sensitivity to frusemide, amiloride or Sulphonamides. Hypokalemia/severe hypokalemia must be corrected before the start of treatment.
Warnings and Precautions
It may be necessary to increase the dose of hypoglycemic agents in diabetic patients. Duride should be discontinued before glucose tolerance test.
Drug interactions
The toxic effects of nephrotoxic antibiotics may be increased by concomitant administration of diuretics like Duride. Frusemide when given concomitantly with lithium, dosage adjustment may be required.
Frusemide may sometimes attenuate the effects of other drugs e.g., NSAIDs, antidiabetics and pressor amines and sometimes potentiate the effects of others e.g., relaxants. Interactions have also been reported with ototoxic antibiotics, antihypertensive agents and cardiac glycosides. Electrolyte disturbances are caused in combination with glucocorticoids. Careful monitoring of potassium levels is recommended when using Duride with ACE Inhibitors to prevent the risk of hyperkalemia and during concomitant use of potassium sparing agents and potassium salts. Should be used with caution in-patients habituated to excessive use of laxatives, which can render electrolyte imbalance.
