Is it Safe to Take Amoxi-Clav during Pregnancy?

Animal studies with orally and parentally administered amoxycillin and clavulanic acid have shown no teratogenic effects. The product has been used in human pregnancy in limited number of cases with no untoward effect. However use of Amoxi-Clav in pregnancy is- not recommended unless considered essential by the physician.

As with any drugs; therapy with Amoxi-Clav during pregnancy should be avoided if at all -possible, especially during the first trimester.

During lactation, trace quantities of amoxycillin can be detected in breast milk.
