No-Spa - Drotaverine Side Effects and Use in Pregnancy, Lactation

No-Spa Side Effects

Like any drug, No-Spa (Drotaverine) may have some side effects.
The following CIOMS frequency rating is used, when applicable:

Cardiac disorders: Rare: palpitations, hypotension
Nervous system disorders: Rare: headache, vertigo, insomnia
Gastrointestinal disorders: Rare: nausea, constipation.
Immune system disorder: Rare: allergic reaction (angioedema, urticaria, rash, pruritus)
Unknown: Fatal and non fatal anaphylactic shock has been reported in patients treated with the injectable form.

Pregnancy and Lactation

A limited amount of data on pregnant patients is available.

Animal studies do not indicate direct or indirect harmful effects with respect to preg­nancy and embryonal/foetal development. Nevertheless, caution should be taken when prescribing to pregnant women.

No-Spa injection should not be used during labor.

Lactation

The excretion of No-Spa (drotaverine) in milk has not been studied in animals. Therefore, its administration during breast-feeding is not recommended.

Driving a Vehicle or Performing Other Hazardous Tasks

Patients should be instructed that if they experience vertigo, they should avoid potentially hazardous tasks such as driving or operating machines.
