Caricef tablet is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that is used to treat various bacterial infections. It belongs to a class of drugs known as cephalosporins. Following are some common and off-label uses of Caricef tablet

Some Common Uses of Caricef Tablet

1. Respiratory Tract Infections: Caricef tablets can be used to treat infections of the respiratory tract, such as bronchitis, pneumonia, and sinusitis.

Caricef is a relatively safe and well-tolerated antibiotic, but there are some contraindications and precautions that should be considered before using Caricef.

Allergy or hypersensitivity to Caricef or other cephalosporin antibiotics: Patients with a history of allergic reactions to Caricef or other cephalosporin antibiotics should not take Caricef as it may cause a severe allergic reaction.

Severe kidney disease: Caricef is primarily eliminated from the body through the kidneys, and patients with severe kidney disease may be at an increased risk of side effects or toxicity.

Caricef Dose for Adults & Children (over 12 years): 400mg/day. (At once or in 2 divided doses)

Caricef Dose for Chronic or Resistant Infections: Caricef tablet 400mg as a single dose is recommended.

Caricef Dose for Children: 8mg/kg/day, administered as a single dose.

Caricef Suspension dosage for children is depending on age group also:

1-4 years: 5ml daily

5-9 years: 10ml daily

10-12 years: 15ml daily

Caricef DS Suspension Dosage:

1-4 years: 2.5ml/day

5-9 years: 5ml/day

10-12 years: 7.5ml/day

Children above 12 years: 10ml/day

Caricef contains cefixime which works by stopping the growth of bacteria by binding to PBPs (penicillin-binding proteins). As a result, it inhibits the cell wall synthesis of bacteria.
