What is Kestine and How Does It Work?

Kestine is a new-generation, non-sedating allergy relief medicine from Almirall – S.A., a Spanish Pharmaceutical company and one of the global leaders in Allergy therapies. In Pakistan, the Kestine brand is marketed by Highnoon Laboratories.

Kestine contains Ebastine as its active ingredient. Kestine produces a strong and prolonged selective blocking of the peripheral H, receptors for histamine.

Kestine Tablet has a longer duration of action that allows it to be administered once daily. Ebastine (the active ingredient in Kestine Tablets) is free from any anticholinergic activity since it has no access to central H, receptors for histamine, and it does not show sedative effects. Kestine also does not potentiate the effects of alcohol.

Scientific Indications

Kestine is indicated for Symptomatic treatment of allergic conditions, such as allergic rhinitis or conjunctivitis, both seasonal and perennial (nasal discharge, nasal itching, eye itching, weeping, sneezing, etc.), chronic urticaria, and allergic dermatitis.

Who Should Not Take Kestine Tablets?

Kestine is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to the active ingredient a.k.a Ebastine.

What Are The Most Common Side Effects of Kestine?

Kestine is generally very safe and well-tolerated. However, no drug is 100% safe and free from unwanted effects. With that being said, Kestine, in some patients can also produce adverse effects. Please see Kestine Side Effects for more details on it.

What is The Recommended Daily Dosage?

In an adult patient (or children older than 12 years of age), the recommended dosage of Kestine tablet is 10mg Tablet once daily. In severe cases, 20mg tablet once daily can also be recommended.

Please note, Since Ebastine (the active ingredient of Kestine Tablet) reaches its therapeutic effect in 1 to 3 hours after administration, therefore, Kestine must not be used in urgent acute allergic cases.
